    Default would be often

    Hello,

Past Habits ? Would / Used to

"I would have a lot of fun when I was younger. (It is wrong)

    But,

    1-When I was a student, I would often have a beard.

This suggests that the state was repeated several times over a period of years, but it is a highly restricted use of ‘would’.

    2-When I was a student, I would often have a beard.

3-She would be the most popular girl on the beach when she wore her bikini. (after, before, while)

4-She would have an amazing tan by the time summer ended.

I have seen these sentences in that internet site, but some other English grammar books say that we can't use the stative verbs with would. Instead of this, this site say that we can use the stative verbs with would with some adverbs, preposition such as often, while. I would like to ask if it is OK or not.

    Thanks.

3-She would be the most popular girl on the beach when she wore her bikini. (after, before, while) What is this supposed to mean?

4-She would have an amazing tan by the time summer ended. This is OK.

It might not be very grammatical but it's used frequently colloquially.

My mum would always shout at me if I got into trouble at school.
She would always be suddenly very popular on the beach when she wore that tiny bikini.
My cat would always throw up when I gave her tinned cat food.
Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.
