Hi!

What is the difference between these two sentences:

If I have screwdriver, I will fix your car.
If I had screwdriver, I would fix your car.

Hi!

What is the difference between these two sentences:

If I have a screwdriver, I will fix your car.
If I had a screwdriver, I would fix your car.

Now they are both correct sentences. What do you think the difference is?

Well, your thread title suggested that you had some idea.

In the first, the speaker suggests that it is possible s/he possesses a screwdriver. In the second, the speaker informs us indirectly that s/he does not possess a screwdriver.

Hi!

What is the difference between these two sentences:

If I have a screwdriver, I will fix your car.
If I had a screwdriver, I would fix your car.

A - Hi there. Can you fix my car?
B - If I have a screwdriver, I will fix your car.
(Person B hunts around in the garage and comes out carrying a screwdriver.)
B - Aha! Look. I have a screwdriver so I will fix your car. It will be ready in ten minutes.
A - Fantastic. Thanks.

A - Hi there. Can you fix my car?
B - If I have a screwdriver, I will fix your car.
(Person B hunts around in the garage and comes out looking disappointed.)
B - I'm really sorry. I don't have one. If I had a screwdriver, I would fix your car.
A - OK. Never mind. Thanks anyway. Bye.
