A lot of male youngsters just love going to washrooms and sort of 'fix' their hair (I have no idea how to say this - so what they might do is, say, twist a few strands or using their fingers to make their hair less flat... ) so it looks better. What are some ways to describe such an action? Informally and formally? Thanks a lot

This is the most common phrase? Is it the only way to say it?

THANKS again

Your "fix their hair" would be very common, also:
fuss with their hair
fiddle with their hair

… and people are often said to muck around/mess about with their hair, and a lot of similar phrases.
