Hi teachers,
Did Dinon come into this shop? Felix asked.
Dinon, the shopkeeper said slowly. What did he do? Wait a minute. Yes! Did he write a book about the old
President?’
He killed the President, Adam said. He murdered him.
Oh yes, the shopkeeper said. I remember now. It was a good book. But the President’s murderer did not come into my shop this morning.
Felix watched the shopkeeper’s face carefully. My question, he said, asked about Alex Dinon.
The shopkeeper looked at Felix and smiled slowly. That’s right, he said.

1. Who did the shopkeeper say Dinon was? A writer.
2. Who did Adam say Dinon was? The President’s murderer.
3. Did Felix examine the shopkeeper’s face casually? Explain your answer.
No, he didn’t. He did it carefully.

I'm not so sure about number 1 and I don't really know how to write another one from those paragraphs.

Thanks in advance.

What did the shopkeeper say Dinon did for a living?

However, the shopkeeper only said Dinon had written a book. That doesn't necessarily make him a writer.

Hi,
You are right! That was my doubt. The answer should be, 'He wrote books', or 'He wrote a book'?

Yes, but if that's the answer, what's the question? Neither your question nor my question now fit.

How often are presidents being murdered that their killers walk about un-noticed?

I assume that Dinon was in the shop, right?

Here is a hard one. Maybe you could give it for "extra credit":

How does the shopkeeper avoid saying Dinon was in the shop?
The shopkeeper said the murderer was not in the shop, and because Dinon is not the murderer, he spoke the truth. .

Hi,
I have a question, when you ask what someone does for a living, it is the same as asking for their job, right?
Having said that, could you tell me what the right answer for your question will be?

Yes.

What do you do for a living? = What is your job? = What is your profession? = What do you do?

As we don't know that Dinon was actually a writer, I suggest something like "What was the only thing the shopkeeper knew about Dinon?" with the answer "He knew that Dinon had written a book about the old president".

That also means your students will have to convert "Did he write a book ...?" into "... Dinon had written ..."
