    Smile commit oneself to doing

    Hi,

"He committed himself to painting the wall"

Does this mean that he finished painting the wall?
Or does it mean he made up his mind to paint the wall?

    Thanks in advance.

The latter. He may not have even started yet.
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
