    Default Listen to and listen

    Dear teachers :

I just started to study an English conversation course, but I am confused on how to used listen to and listen in a sentence, I think that the use of both depends on if it is conveying a direct object, a object noun or not, I appeal to your assistance and cooperation in this matter.

    A) The following sentences do not take to with the verb listen.

    1) Listen, you have to obey the rules or you will be punished.

    2) She is not listening, she is angry.

    3) So, what do you want me to listen ?

    4) You do not have to say it again, we listened pretty well.

    5) I do not want to listen any kind of music now.

    B) The following sentences take to with the verb listen.

    1) Listen to me carefully, please stop annoying my sister.

    2) He doe not want to listen to my explanation

    3) I listened to her attentively.

    4) I did not hear you because I was listening to him

    5) I like to listen to R & B music.

I would like to know which of those sentences above are correct, your assistance and cooperation will be appreciated. Soon I will post the second part of the Schwa sound as I promised you before.

    Sincerely,

    Dear 5jj :

Thank you for your corrections;I just ordered the phonetic book you recommended to me via Internet. 5jj I would like to know when I have to use listen to and listen, can you please, give me any advice, explanation or grammar rule on how to use them ?

I will be looking forward to your reply because I want to know If the usage has to be with the direct object and object noun; or if this it is a matter of preposition, which I do not think it is not (a matter of preposition).

    Respecfully,

You listen to something, a noun or pronoun object of the preposition to. I underlined the objects in the two sentences I corrected.

    Thanks a lot 5jj :

Now I know how to use them, so it depends on if it conveys an object or not to use listen to or listen, that is the reason I like this website; because it clarifies my English doubt.

    Thanks again 5jj.
