Hello,

Sometimes we register the presence of something by registering a light signal radiated by an object. In this case we speak about "light registration" or "lighting registration"?

Thanks

If you have to, the first; but most ordinary people would say 'the registering/noticing/detecting/etc... of light'.

b
PS the second might refer to the casting of light onto a registrar's desk. ;-)

I would probably say "registration by light." Or "detection by light."

"Light registration" sounds like you are registering your lights.

What does "your lights" mean? Which lights are you speaking about?

My original sentence includes different types of registration: acoustic registration, graphical registration, and light registration. Thus, I need the construction "noun + noun" rather than "noun + by + noun".

Any lights. Like the lights that I have in my home. I'm just saying that we have "car registration" and "gun registration" whereby our cars and guns are registered with the authorities. The phrase "light registration" sounds odd to me because of these other uses.

If you are using the same pattern for "acoustic registration" then yes, use "light registration." The reader will understand.
