    Question help

    Hi could anyone help me my son is doing his homework and we are stuck on the following: why do we write "an honest man", but "a hot day"?hope someone can help:

    Because the 'h' is silent in 'honest', while we pronounce it in 'hot'.
    Hour/heir/honour, etc have silent first letters.
