    Teacher, is this sentence OK?

    I am not good at writing letters and this is one area I need to improve in. To do that, I plan to read more.

    Or the less typical/more formal, "....one area in which I need to improve"

    I'm not sure how reading more generally will help you to write letters. It would probably help if you read lots of example letters.
    Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.
