There are plenty of contexts where they wouldn't be synonyms- you can have a freak event (unexpected) like a freak storm, where misfit would not work.

In case of talking about a person who behaves extraordinarily or not appropriately or strange, or has a weird appearance (in other people's opinions) I guess they are synonyms, are not they?
