    A sentence with "unless"

Please, tell me if the following sentence is ok:

I usually donīt eat meat, unless I donīt have any other choice.

I know unless makes the clause negative so it is actually a double negative... but when I replace unless with except if, it doesnīt seem to make sense if it is unless I have any other choice.

Or shouldnīt we use unless in a sentence like this at all and rather replace it with some other expresion?

    Thanks a lot

    Re: A sentence with "unless"

Both "... unless I don't have any other choice" and "... unless I have no other choice" are fine.
Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.

and do they have the same meaning? That the speaker eats meat only when he/she doesnīt have anything else to eat?
