    What is the origin of this expression ? Is it biblical ? What are the rules of usage ? Where can I find a precise definition ?

    I don't know and can't find its origin, but it is just used to emphasise how different something is:
    TV is a great method of communication, but the internet is a different kind of beast. (= it is very different in nature)
