Doesn't 2 make sense? If not, can you explain why?
2 is non-restricve clause, I explained to someone only 1 makes sense, but she argues 2's "the large parrot species" is a distinct concept, so the rest "reported to have..." is only additional information. I think this can change depending on context, but just considering this sentence, how can I determine?
1. The large parrot species reported to have the longest lifespan is cockatoo.
2. The large parrot species, reported to have the longest lifespan, is cockatoo.
If you put 'the' in front of 'cockatoo', then #1 is fine.
Unless there is only one species of large parrots, then #2 does not work.
