Default I forgot mailing the letter

[I mailed the letter, but I forgot that I did that.]

Is it natural to say “I forgot mailing the letter.” ?

    Thanks.

As an NES but not a teacher:

Yes. It's possible, but I'd rather say "I forgot that I'd posted/mailed the letter".

    Thanks, Route21.

In spoken English, is it common to leave out the “that” as in your excellent example ?

    i.e I forgot I'd posted/mailed the letter.

Yes. I believe you could omit "that", but I probably wouldn't.
Maybe it's just a question of different styles.

In Br Eng you could also say 'I forgot having posted the letter'.

    I would use:

I forgot I posted the letter.
I forgot I had posted the letter.
I had forgotten posting the letter.
Remember - correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing make posts much easier to read.
