    meaing of some expressions

    This is about somebody who loves reading comics. I dont get the exact meaning of the following expressions.

    I used to get a copy of the Manchester Guardian and sit with that wide open- and a comic behind!

    He would hold the newspaper -- a broadsheet -- completely open and hide a comic book behind it.

    So anyone looking at him would think he was reading the paper.
