    Thanks for including your opinion. Now if you look up both atheist and ruffian in a dictionary, not only will you confirm that your guess was correct (it's a), but you will also learn what an atheist is and what a ruffian is.

    I would do an internet search like this: "Define supreme being". Then do the same thing for the other words. Here is a hint: A ruffian is a rough, mean person who likes to fight and is not gentle or respectful.

    There is a grammatical error in the original sentence: ... than he thinks he is.
    I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.
