    All that was in the lawyer's safe was/were seven gold coins, two wooden and candlesticks.

    Which bold word is correct? Thanks.

    I would use "were". In this case, the subject is delayed (after the verb). After the verb comes multiple items and thet are is plural.

    "Two wooden" has no meaning.

    I would use "was" because the subject is "All" in my view.
