    Default believe vs trust

I think "believe" is about "someone's words or behaviors", while "trust" , "someone's credibility".
So if the following works, the switched ways wouldn't work, right?
    1. Did you believe him? = Did you believe what he said or his behavior?
    2. Do you trust him? = Do you have any confidence or credibility in him?

Colloquially, they can mean the same thing when you add "in" after "believe".

Thus, "Do you believe in him?" means exactly the same as "Do you trust him?"
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....

Believe is for a single utterance, trust is in general.
