    Default Catching Up

I tried once to post something here. Then it disappeared. This time I am going to try something else. Let's see what happens.

I would be willing to put "Not a professional teacher" in each one of my posts if I could figure out how to do that. (Perhaps my memory fails me, but I don't think I had to do that before (maybe because I was a moderator). (BTW, it was really "cool" to read some of my advice when I was registering as a "new" member.) (BTW, don't you think "Tarheel" is a "cooler" username than "RonBee"?)

(This is a true story. We were in the teachers' lounge at Froebel Elementary. I said: "How many teachers are in this room?" One of the "real" teachers said: "Including you?")

How do I find the section that lists those with the most posts?

(I have other stories. Ask me how I got my favorite nickname.)

How did you get your favorite nickname?
I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

Hi! Here's the story. I had found this book about a volcano that erupted in a farmer's cornfield. (It was a fictionalized version of a true story.) I decided it would be fun to read the story to the kids (the kids at Froebel Branch (4th and 5th grades), where I worked for free. (They got a real bargain.)) Anyhow, I read the story to one of the fourth grade classes (in the library). At one point in the story the volcano goes "Boom!" And it does it again: "Boom!" Later, we (Valerie and I) were standing outside the library when the kids were going to the lunchroom. One of the fourth graders spoke to me, saying, "Hello, Mr. Boom!" I liked it so much that I encouraged them to use it.

I used to be RonBee, but now I am Tarheel. (North Carolina is known as the Tarheel state.) It is interesting to see that while some things have changed, some things have stayed the same.

Obviously, there are still some things I can do, but partly due to format changes and partly due to my bad memory there are some things I have trouble with.

It's amazing to me that the couplets thread is still going strong. I didn't think it would last that long.

I guess I have more time now to do things like post on Internet forums. I used to spend a lot of time visiting my wife in the nursing home (she had had a stroke), but there is nobody to visit anymore. (Her last stroke was the last one. There won't be any more.)

Hopefully I can be useful helping ESL learners improve their English skills. (Some of these people sure do ask some tough questions. )

I guess that's all for now.

Welcome back then, Sir Tarheel (I know that US citizens cannot accept nobility titles, but... what the heck!).
Please be aware that I'm neither a native English speaker nor a teacher.
