    Default Singer!

    Hello, all!

I have a question regarding the pronunciation of "singer". Invariably, dictionaries list it with the ng consonant sound, but, when you click to listen to it, you get a g! Even if subtle, itīs there. Only on Cambridge, American pronunciation, did I find the "proper" ng sound. So, my question is: how do yīall pronounce this word? Are natives "in pain" to pronounce the ng by itself? In the middle of the word, I find it very hard to pronounce, like in singer. I was wondering why most pronunciations on dictionaries hold the g? Is this how itīs spoken, commonly? Iīve also noticed that, when you have ng in words that donīt finish with ing, when you link, thereīs a g sound too. For example, hang out. Am I crazy? Anyone?

    Default Re: Singer!

It's normally pronounced without a hard /g/, as opposed to 'finger', which does include a hard /g/.
Some regional accents pronounce a hard /g/. The girl in this video even says the /g/ in 'sing'!

PS: She also produces a nice glottal stop when saying her surname.
