Question How to use the word 'demeaning'

My brother used a sentence yesterday which I felt was quite incorrect, though I could not explain why.

His sentence was "He was demeaning me".

Can this sentence be constructed in this way.
And if not, why? and what would be the correct example?

    Cheers

Your brother's sentence was just fine, Constance.
