Is "yard work" equal to "gardening"? You may have a yard, but it may not have a garden in there.

34) W: Hello, Thomas
M:Hi, Janis. Are you doing some yard work?

Yardwork is not always gardening. It might involve the lawn, trees, etc.

I do not enjoy "yard work" - mowing the lawn, picking up the sticks that have fallen, spreading fertilizer or weed control. On the other hand, I like working with the flowers that are in the flower bed - that part is gardening.

I dislike all of it. Hence, my life in New York City!

In BE, 'yard work' is simply 'gardening'.

My daughter does the gardening - trying to grow flowers and beans and peppers.

I do the yard work. Try pulling wild grape vines off of a tree for fun some day!

But I always thought that was hard work! Are you sure it's not a typo? ;-)
