    understanding

    1 he has played his first game for his country and the team didnít have it all their own way.

    didn't have it all their own way....what did the writer want to say here?thanx.

    background:the guy(Bent,debudant in Eng vs Uruguay, if you know football.)didn't play very well,but his club manager (curbs) was just on his side,argueing he's done his job.so what does the sentence say here?

    The phrase means that the team didn't totally dominate the game, and that the team they were playing caused them some problems.

    Having watched the match, I would have to agree that it is true. England didn't have things all their own way. Uruguay always looked dangerous when attacking, and scored a superb goal!
