What do you think is the difference between "demonstration" and "protest"? In 70s and 80s in Korea, there used to be frequent demo(demostration) by Korean college students to protest against military regime. What I can think of "demo" is throwing tear gas, stones, and body-fighting between students riot police and , sometimes leading to death. Maybe it was also called "riot", I guess.

52)Tree-sitting is one form of demonstration that people use to stop loggers from cutting down forests....

A demonstration is generally understood to mean a non-violent protest — either a march or a sit-in.

It's only a riot if it turns violent.

You can hold a demonstration in support of something. You can hold a protest only against something.
