Default waste vs wastes; talk vs speak

    A. Which of the sentences below is correct? Thank you.

    1. You must sort the household and kitchen waste before putting it into the recycling bins.
    2. You must sort the household and kitchen wastes before putting them into the recycling bins.

    B. I know it is correct to say "Can your baby talk yet?" Is it also correct to say "Can your baby speak yet?" This sound unnatural to me, but I need to make sure. Thank you.

    A. 1. is correct.

    B. My personal view is that "talk" implies a string of coherent, recognisable words; whilst "speak" simply means saying a word [or words] out loud.
I'm not a teacher of English, but I have spoken it for (almost) all of my life....
