    Some questions about grammar

    Hello!

Would you explain me the difference between these sentences:

My brother hit the little girl, and she started to cry | My brother hit the little girl, and she started crying.

    I started played | I started playing.

    Thanks.

    No difference in meaning.

    I started played | I started playing.
    The first in ungrammatical (incorrect).

    Thanks.
    Welcome to the forum.

Please give your threads meaningful titles. Everyone here has "some questions about grammar". Your title should include some or all of the words you are querying. A good title for this would have been "she started to cry" or similar.

I have put my responses above in red.

Remember - if you don't use correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing, anything you write will be incorrect.

We have two options in English to use a verb form as a noun. One is an infinitive (usually "to" plus a "verb form"); the other is a gerund (-ing form).

In your first examples, you have one of each. In your second example, the first should be "to play". The past participle "played" doesn't work.
