Default any and a plural noun when it means it doesn't matter?

    Hi
Could you tell me if we can use a plural noun after any when it means it doesn't matter which one?
Which of the following can be correct?
    It can treat any disease.
    It can treat any diseases.
To me always the fist was correct, until I came across a sentence like the second.

    Thanks a lot.
Being a non-native teacher, I'm so thrilled being in such a superb forum.

They are equivalent, but probably both are incorrect.

    Please indicate your index words.

I would write, "It can treat all diseases". I'd also put quotes around an index sentence.
