Default Article the before a gerund

On the SAT test, this sentence is said to be correct:

"My favorite activity at this camp is the swimming."

I wonder about the use of the definite article "the" in this sentence. Don't we usually write this way? "My favorite activity at this camp is swimming."

Could someone explain why "the" is used? Thank your for your help.

Are you really an English native speaker? If so, I'm surprised you haven't come across this.

A: "I saw you at the club last night. I didn't think you drank alcohol."
    B: "I don't. I go there for the dancing."

It's specific swimming- the swimming at that camp, not elsewhere.
