    Exclamation 'it takes me'

Can anybody break down the sentence "It takes me 20 minutes to get to work." ??? I am struggling with how to devise a context (contextualize & convey) meaning for 'takes me.'

    Please? Thank you!

    dear friend

it takes me ... means that the time that vaistes for my arrival to work is ... minutes. it means that the normal and the usual time , and the average time that is needed for me to get work is ... minutes.

e.g~ I leave my apartment at 8.00 and I'll be at the office at 8.20 every day.

    hope that helps

i'm trying to make this clearer for a bunch of students, i am in teacher training (celta) and this is part of an assignment. anything meaning 'takes' is synonymous w/ 'using' (time) isn't acceptable...anyhow, thank you for such a timely reply!!

    Re: 'it takes me'

If you feel you need to stick to the basic meaning of the verb 'take' and show your students how it works in that particular context, then how about this interpretation:

"The way to work takes 20 minutes of my time"

Sorry if the above doesn't answer your question...
