    the sentence is the following:

    My boyfriend broke up with me out of the blue few months ago...

    what is the meaning of : OUT OF THE BLUE?

    "Out of the blue" means "unexpectedly".

    The "blue" is the sky. The metaphor is of "something unexpected falling out of the sky".
