    when do you use approval of and approval on?
    When do you use request and request for?

    Approval on- this is more like giving recognition to something to me, while the other is supporting it or giving it the OK.
    Request for- we use the preposition when we use 'request' as a noun- he made a request for a transfer. When we use it as a verb, there's no need for a preposition.
