    Here I give you some questions after reading one newspaper article.

    2. What does "to be up for sth" mean?

    It appears in the headline of a newspaper article.

    The sentence: Surf's not up for Newquay as reef plan flops

    3. What is a "stag do"?

    Sentence: "It would be fantastic for Newquay, turning it at a stroke into a world-class surfing destination rather than what it is becoming now, a cheap and cheerful place for a stag do."

    5. Who does "the great and good of Cornwall" refer to?

    6. What does "to peel off mean"?

    Sentence: A team of consultants from New Zealand, ASR, carried out a feasibility study and concluded that a reef made out of sandbags built off one of Newyuay's beaches, Tolcarne, would create two terrific breaks, one peeling off left, the other right.

    1- Can you give the context. It could mean 'when consent is given'.
    2- be up for= be ready/prepared for or want to do. Here, it sounds more like the first
    3- stag do = party before a man gets married (women have hen dos)
    4- a person who works out whether projects will function without destroying the environment (or finances, etc), to see whether the project is viable
    5- the important people who control things
    6- moving in that direction
    7- blast = explode. here, I think it means make a dramatic landing
    8- gig = small rowing boat
