    Reducing relative clauses

    Dear teachers,

Do you think that it may be possible to reduce the following relative clauses into relative phrases?

    1. "Sequoyah, who had no education, believed that reading and writing were important."

    2. "Thousands of cherokees who did not know how to read and write started to write using the new alphabet."

    3. "The man who threw the bomb was arrested."

    Thanks.

That doesn't work for me. It suggests to me that the lack of education was the reason for his belief that reading and writing were important. The original does not have this idea.
