Dear teachers,
How should I analyse these sentences, please? I'm quite confused.
1. The production manager mailed the letter herself.
mailed = transitive verb
the letter = direct object
herself = part of the subject --> "the production manager herself" ??
2. Milton, the author of Paradise Lost, was deeply versed in ancient learning.
was deeply versed (verbal phrase) = intransitive verb
in ancient learning (prepositional phrase) = obligatory adverbial ??
3. He wanted to make himself useful.
wanted (verb) = transitive verb
to make (noun) himself useful = direct object ?
OR
wanted to make (verb phrase) = complex-transitive verb
himself = direct object
useful = object complement
Thank you for your help.
