    Red face i had the betting to fall back on?

    The following sentence is what once a famous sports star told his interviewer after he fell from the stardom. did you feel lonely? it took a lot of sports players like that ,but i had the betting to fall back on. here what does it mean by i had the betting to fall back on?

    It meant that he had betting (gambling) as a second choice career.
