    please correct it, "what were wanted were teachers not the books"

    I would say 'What was needed were teachers not books'

    That's interesting. I would be more inclined to say:

    1. What was needed was teachers, not books.

    I would say 'Teachers were what was needed'
    What do others think re original sentence?
