Default can i pronounce body as ['bɔdi] ?

The pronunciation of body and buddy are close. Can I pronounce body as ['bɔdi] instead of [bɑdi] in US?

I know nothing about phonetic symbols. "Body" and "buddy" are not pronounced the same in AmE and, at least for me, they are not that close.

The first vowel in "body" rhymes with ah, rah, spa, pa. ma, etc. The first vowel in "buddy" rhymes with bud, dud, crud, flub, spud, nut, spud, thud, etc. The final "y" is pronounced as a long e in both cases. Others can probably explain it better.

If you go this site and listen to the two words, you should be able to hear the difference.

American A's have a variety of sounds. When I learned "phonics", a short a was as in rat, mat, fat hat, etc. A long A was as in hate, fate, mate, rate, etc. And then there were other sounds, like the a in car, far, etc. and the A in saw, law, craw, etc.
