    Question Conditional verb tense

    Which is correct and why:

    If I were a millionaire, I would travel to Paris.

    If I was a millionaire, I would travel to Paris.

    Both are OK. Grammatical purists prefer the use of the subjunctive 'were', but many native speakers use 'was. In formal language, 'were' is still preferred.
