    Re: Eye sight

We use the terms near sighted (has trouble seeing things that are far away) and far sighted (has trouble seeing things that are close). Either condition can range from mild to severe.

    Re: Eye sight

I am extremely near-sighted. Without my contact lenses in, I am legally blind.

Since I've turned 45, I've become rather far-sighted as well. At first it was mild, but now it is moderate.

    I am severely near-sighted. I am moderately far-sighted.

I'm not a teacher, but I write for a living. Please don't ask me about 2nd conditionals, but I'm a safe bet for what reads well in (American) English.

    Re: Eye sight

It looks like most of the dictionaries prefer 'farsighted' (or 'longsighted') and 'nearsighted', which is the way I use them, for hypermetropia and myopia respectively - ie. neither 'near sighted' nor 'near-sighted'.
But I haven't checked the statistics.

    Re: Eye sight

A quick search of Google and Onelook suggest that all three forms are in use, but the one word form appears to the most common.
