What's your accent like? I gave your friend a quick listen, but am away on a very slow connection, so it didn't come through very well, but his pronunciation seemed reasonable. I'll try it again on a better connection and reply.

You've already told us he's from Hong Kong. Do you mean what part of Hong Kong?

Some words get cut a bit - couple seems to almost lose the last syllable - and sounds almost disappear, like the final /d/ in started. Vowel sounds can be a bit too long. However, the pronuciation is generally fine.

I think the OP wants to ask if it is American or British accent.

Neither really- it's not a native accent and isn't close enough to one to say IMO.

Hm. I'm listening again. I might be hearing some Australian flourishes. For instance, he's pronouncing some of his long A's as if they're long I's, e.g. great sounded like grite.

Thanks for the information, Charlie and Tdol!

Mine is not information, it's just a wild guess. I thought you were going to tell us what his accent is supposed to be!

I can't identify it. I agree with Tdol: it doesn't sound American or British. It doesn't really sound like anything.

If you don't know, either, you could just ask your friend where his English teacher comes from.

So I asked him about it today and turns out he had couples of different English teaches in the past. One is from Australia, one is from England and one is an non native English speaker. I guess he picked up his accent from all these different teachers.

That makes sense. A smattering of this and smattering of that. It sounds like he's doing fine.
