Please would you correct the mistakes in my sentence.

John's wife told her husband that as long as there were naive people like himself, conmen will be successful.

I would change "himself" to "him". There is no justification for a reflexive pronoun there.

How about "John's wife told him..."

If she is John's wife, then "her husband" is him, right? No need to circumlocute.
