    Default A small question.

Ok everyone, how many ways are there to pronounce the word "HAMIE" without saying it as HA-ME?
Is saying it as "HA-MY" possible at all?

In my mind and in American English only if it were spelled without the e and you dubled the m. as in HAMMI. But I am sure others would differ.

If the word is not of English origin it could be pronounced a number of ways depending on the language of origin.

I would most certainly be pronouncing it as:

    heI.mi

    >> "eI" is a diphthong as it appears in the word "hate" (heIt) or "bait" (beIt)

    >> "i" is the "stressed & short" as it appears at the end of the words like "party" (pA:.ti) or "healthy" (hel.Ti)

Only exception is if the word itself along with its pronounciation being of "foreign" origin.
