It's interesting that when I wrote in my journal I never paid any attention to the words until editing. Now I read every word and sentence then the paragraph. I notice the words that I use which can be a strenght or weakness but more of a strength with spelled words. What I have missed over the years writing in a journal.

Perhaps, but to me, the point of a journal is just to write down thoughts, emotions, feelings, ideas, etc. It isn't mean to be read by others, and you're not concerned about grammar, or readability, or even coherency. Journals are meant to be random, jumbled. You're just trying to get thoughts down while they're still fresh. You don't do drafts and re-writes in a journal.

Journals are like sketchbooks for writers.
