Egotism is normally viewed in a negative light- it's a form of selfishness. Individualism doesn't have negative connotations- it's about the importance of the individual and their characteristics and that if the individual is able to develop to their highest potential, then it is better both for the indivual concerned and for society as a whole. The thinking behind it is that if the individual is constricted by soiciety, then we will lose a lot of their creativity.
