Re: how to make use of newspapers.

There's a lot that you can do with newspapers. I recommend reading the comments and leaders because they do things that students are expected to do in many exams, like writing arguments. Most of us don't write a 250-word argument about something in normal life, so reading people who do it on a regular basis is a good way of getting to know the language and structure used. Also, they offer an important introduction to what that culture thinks is important; some countries, for instance, don't cover crime much, but in the UK, the papers love it. They also offer a good source of the most contemporary language usage- the words that are fashioable and important today. Try to read them critically- compare the same story in different papers and see what effect this has, etc.
