The sooner they start doing a degree, the earlier they finish it to start working as qualified specialists to provide for their families.

A friend of mine says that the sentence above isn't logically correct. It's too difficult to explain to you why he thinks so because even I cannot entirely understand what he means. :-D I believe that the sentnece is as good as it is.

It's logical but poorly expressed.

It's just common sense that the earlier someone starts their degree, the earlier they will finish it. There's no need to bring in starting it and finishing it.

The earlier someone completes their degree, the sooner they will be able to get a job and start providing for their family.

This is why we dropped Grade 13 here in Ontario. Come to think of it, with OECD youth employment so high, I'm not so sure it's a great idea.

Moreover. the 2 tos have no obvious (expressed) relation to what's gone before. It's just lazy writing to sprinkle around a couple of to-infinitives and expect readers to sort out the meaning. ;-) Stop the sentence after it. Then, if you feel the need, add 'Then they can... and provide...'. ;-)
