    Default a confusing conversation

    Dear Teachers,
I read this conversation from Mirror, Mirror by Gregory Maguire:
"You don't know what you pray about," snorted Primavera, "that's why you won't tell us. You pray for a reason to pray, that's all. And it doesn't come."
"It'll come soon enough," said Fra Ludovico bitterly. "I've been to Rome, after all; I know how quickly peace concludes."
Why does their conversation jump from praying to Rome, and from Rome to the end of peace? I don't get what they are talking about...

Fra Ludovico's experience in Rome taught him that peace doesn't last, and the end of peace will give him a reason for praying.

    Thanks!
And, when they say "it doesn't come" and "it'll come soon enough", does this "it" refer to what Fra Ludovico parys/hopes for?
