    Default Word classes

    Can someone please help with the following?

    What are the word classes of the following 'out's?
    Their plan didn't work out so he dropped out of the arrangement.

    work out- here it is modifying the verb, so it's not functioning as a preposition. Some call this a particle, or adverbial particle, while others prefer to call it an adverb.

    Same thing to me- the verb is drop + out, to make the phrasal verb, with of doing the connecting as a preposition
