Leech and Svartvik was a book recommended when I was an undergraduate student. The Swan I came acrooss when I started teaching. I honestly can't remember when I got the Quirk. Fowler's English Uasge is an interesting book, though many findit a bit too prescriptive.

If you have to pick just one what would be your favorite text. Just for interest, please indulge me.

If I had to choose one, then I'd go for Swan.

It is always good to know the reason for doing something.

I see that you were recommended another book, but had to use Swan as part of your job. What is the reason for choosing Swan . Is it because you are more familiar with it or simply it is better.

And other experts here, are you still thinking what are your favs. Don?t you want to tell ??

    Have a good year.

I didn't have to use Swan, it was just something I hadn't seen before. I like it because it covers so many points.
