    Re: tense

The expression "It is (high/about) time + past verb test" is used to complain about or criticise something or someone:
    • It is time that the government took action.
    • It is about time that the government took action.
    • It is high time that the government took action.
The expression “It’s time we left” would express an implicit criticism of our action because we must have overstayed our welcome. If you just want to express the idea that we need to leave now because we have other obligations and cannot stay, then you would simply say: It's time for us to leave or it's time to go home .

Yes, the sentence is fine as it stands – provided it's in the right context!

In British English, you can also use "it's time + past tense" to express a reminder or suggestion:

    1. It's time we left. The train's at six and there'll probably be a queue at the ticket office.

(This may well fall within Like's category of "criticism", though.)

The sentence is correct. Left is the past tense of "leave"
It is time + infinitive : It`s time to go[we usually do it at this hour, etc]
It is time +past tense :"It`s time we left"[ means it`s almost too late]
It is high time+subject +past tense :It`s high time we left[ it should have happened a long time ago]
Note : It`s high time cannot take an infinitive!
